At Dean Taylor Bathrooms we specialise in supplying and installing quality, fabulous wetrooms than can add value, character and a sense of style to your home.
Some of our clients want a wetroom from the outset, for others a wetroom can be the best outcome, either in terms of the style or as the best use of space.
Some Of Our Work
This bespoke wetroom was created out of the corner of a living room. Although it is is fully wheelchair accessible the brief was that it should not look clinical in any way.
A fully inclusive, wheelchair-accessible room created by removing a wall between a small en suite and bathroom. Both rooms were too small to be usable by our client, but this space enabled a bath to be retained as well as a shower for convenience. The flooring is waterproof, slip-resistant Altro flooring which is flat and obstacle-free. Note, several support bars were fitted after this photograph was taken.
A wetroom floor created with stunning tiles in a small en suite in a holiday cottage. With space at a premium, running tiles along instead of a shower tray gives the impression of space and continuity. The fixed glass screen and hinged panel were installed to keep the other areas dry.
So What is a Wetroom?
A wetroom is basically a shower room without a shower tray. A true wetroom will also not have a shower screen, although for convenience and to keep other areas dry, screens can be fitted, especially in smaller rooms.
The area is waterproofed, traditionally either by tanking or with a membrane. These days the most common method is to fit a shaped piece of water-resistant material under the top layer of flooring. This then acts as an invisible shower tray, keeping the area waterproof and creating the gentle slope down towards the drain.
A suitable drainage for the existing floor will be fitted to allow the water to clear freely. The walls and floor are then dressed with your choice – tiles, panels or something a little more unusual!
A well-made, well-fitted wetroom should be as waterproof as any other bath or shower room arrangement, so wetrooms can be installed on any floor – including loft conversions, where elements such as a sloping roof can restrict some shower enclosures.
Why Have a Wetroom?
Clients who choose to have a wetroom installed tell us they appreciate the clean, open feel that it brings. This enables them to add their own style as they have more flexibility in the shape and size of the shower area, as well as their choice of floor and wall coverings.
The openness of a wetroom means it is easily accessible, or can be made to suit accessibility or special needs. And all that easy access means cleaning should be a doddle!
